YESPIROX-ZPTO delivers dual antifungal activity targeting Malassezia and other scalp fungi through two completely distinct and complementary mechanisms.

Ciclopirox 1.0% w/w is an antifungal agent of the hydroxypyridone class. It works by forming complexes with essential polyvalent cations (Fe³⁺, Al³⁺) that act as co-factors in various enzymatic processes of fungi, such as respiratory enzymes, catalases, and enzymes involved in DNA repair. Thus, through multi-site chelation, the drug interferes with the energy metabolism of fungi, their respiratory function and membrane integrity at once. This leads to a fungicidal and bactericidal effect on various fungi regardless of ergosterol synthesis. The unique mechanism of Ciclopirox makes the development of resistance very improbable, thus increasing the effectiveness of the treatment of recurrent and chronic infections of the scalp.

The mechanism of action of Zinc Pyrithione (ZPT) 1.0% w/w is associated with providing zinc ions to the scalp and the fungal cell, where they disrupt the proton gradient of the membrane of fungal cells, disrupt mitochondrial function and inhibit the activity of membrane-associated enzymes. Also, ZPT has a cytostatic effect on the scalp keratinocytes, inhibiting the rapid division of skin cells and thus the formation of dandruff flakes. The substance inhibits scalp sebum oxidation, which is used as nutrition substrate by Malassezia. 

How to Use

Wet hair and scalp thoroughly. Apply a sufficient quantity of YESPIROX-ZPTO Shampoo to the wet scalp, lather well, and massage gently into the scalp with fingertips for 2–3 minutes to ensure contact time with the scalp surface. Leave on for 3–5 minutes before rinsing thoroughly with water. Use as directed by the dermatologist — typically twice a week for active dandruff or seborrhoeic dermatitis, with frequency reduced to once a week for maintenance. Avoid contact with eyes; if the shampoo enters the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water.

Side Effects

YESPIROX-ZPTO Shampoo is usually highly tolerable. The rare side effects that can occur on the scalp include the following:

• Transient itching or burning sensation on the scalp
• Scalp dryness in people who have pre-existing dry scalp conditions
• Hair discolouration due to frequent use of the shampoo (rare, because of ZPT component)
• Contact allergy in people who are allergic to any component
• Irritation of eyes from accidental contact with the eyes

Precautions and Warnings
